Gutter cleaning sounds like one job. It is really two, and the difference between them is the downspouts and whether anyone checks that the water goes where it should.
Why the level matters
If you think of gutters as part of your annual maintenance, the useful question is not only when to have them done but how far the clean should go. Leaves and dirt sitting in the trough are the part you can see from the yard. A downspout packed with debris is the part you usually find out about in the first heavy rain, when water spills over the edge instead of running down and away.
So we offer two levels of service, and we say plainly what each one leaves out, before you book rather than after.
The basic clean: blown out, then swept up
On the basic service, we blow your gutters out with air to remove the leaves and dirt, or do it by hand if the job needs it. When we are done, we sweep off your patio, driveway and walkway, so what came out of the gutters does not stay on the ground around the house.
What basic does not cover:
- Downspouts. We do not remove or unclog them on the basic clean.
- Water testing. We do not run water through the system to test it.
- Wet, heavy debris. If what is up there is wet and heavy, blowing it out can make a mess on your property.
For plenty of houses, basic is exactly right: the leaves and dirt come out and the walkways are clean when we leave. If any of the three points above matters for yours, the premium clean is the one to book.
The premium clean: the whole system, cleared and tested
Premium is done by hand and with water, start to finish, and it includes the parts basic skips.
- Gutters and downspouts cleaned out. Leaves, dirt and debris come out by hand and with water. Downspouts are included, not skipped.
- The system tested and washed out. We run water through the whole system to make sure it flows the right way. That is the part a blow out can never tell you.
- Exteriors rinsed. If the outside of your gutters is dirty, we rinse it off while we are there.
- Walkways swept. Patio, driveway and walkway are swept before we leave, same as the basic clean.
- Furniture put back. Any outdoor furniture we moved to get to the gutters goes back where we found it.
While we are up there
Gutters are the service our name never mentions, and they come up in our reviews again and again anyway. Part of that is thoroughness. The rest is what happens once we are on the roof: if we notice something going on with the house, we bring it up, whether or not it is in our lane.
Gutters first, windows last
If you are booking both, the gutters come first and the windows go last. Put both on the quote request and we will look at the whole house. More on that in exterior window cleaning, or see the Seymour Shine Subscription if you would rather stop thinking about the glass altogether.
Which one to ask for
If you want the leaves and dirt out and the walkways swept after, ask for basic. If you want the downspouts cleared and the system actually tested, ask for premium. Tell us which when you get in touch so the quote comes back right the first time, and if the job needs eyes on it, we come look in person.
